Icebreaking
The Port of Kirkenes has set aside a seasonal fee as part of the port call fee that is imposed on calling vessels in addition to the port call fee during the ice season (1. December - 31. March). In the municipality`s own sea area, the municipality is responsible for essential icebreaking and removal of objects that obstruct sea transit or pose a traffic hazard, according to Norwegian law.
Due to capacity limitations, the administration has limited the time for icebreaking to Monday - Friday at 08:00 - 14:00, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 09:00 - 13:00.
Towing
In special circumstances, we offer towing of vessels. See the Port Regulations under or contact the administration for more information and current rates.
Vessel rental
The icebreaker "Kraft Johanssen" which can be ordered for assignments, is owned and operated by the port of Kirkenes. Personnel are not included in the rental of the vessel. This service is provided on specific business terms.
Preperation and start-up of the vessel, as well as 1 hour rent, are included in each assignment. Each hour that is started is counted as a full hour.
The master / shipowner, quay or goods owner can order icebreaking for a single occasion for private terminals and quays that are not part of the usual icebreaking area. The requester of the service has the financial responsibility.
